Other common uses
‘NHS choices’ at www.direct.gov.uk states that acupuncture is often used to treat the following: (further information on the evidence for the use of acupuncture in these conditions, can be found at this website under ‘evidence’).
Headache and migraine
Chronic pain, including neck and back pain
Joint pain
Dental pain
Post-operative pain
Post-operative nausea and vomiting
Allergies, including hay fever and eczema
Fatigue
Depression and anxiety
Digestive disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Infertility and menstrual disorders
Insomnia
However there is no one health condition or set of conditions that acupuncture is meant to treat. Instead like most acupuncturists I use the treatment for patients with an extremely wide range of health conditions but with the focus on traditional Chinese diagnosis not the western medical condition.
